According to legend, 3 alwars were born in 3 different places, but met here and got the Paramapadha life here
PoigaiAlwar was born in Thiruvekka on a tuesday. BhoodhatAlwar was born in Avittam on a Wednesday and Pei Alwar was born in Sathayam on Thursday. One day, all the Alwars wanted to worship the Lord in Thirukuvillorr. They started from their respective places, intending to reach Thirukkovilloor. It started raining heavily. PoigaiAlwar took shelter at a Brahmin’s house where he was given a small room only big enough for one person to lie down. Sometime later, BhoodhatAlwar also came to take shelter in the same place. The Brahmin couldn’t refuse him. PoigaiAlwar said that the two of them would be able to sit comfortably night long and Bhoodatalwar agreed. So, the two of them sat down and started singing praises of the Lord. Pei Alwar also came to the same house sometime later for shelter. Again, the Brahmin was unable to refuse him. PoigaiAlwar and BhoodatAlwar agreed to let Pei Alwar join them, although now with 3 people in the room, they would have to stand all night long. The three of them then continued to sing praises of the lord all night long. Pleased by their devotion, the Lord blessed them and appeared before them in his true form.
