Thiruthanka – Sri Deepa Prakasar Perumal Temple

Thiru Thanka or Thoopul is 15^th of the 108 divya desam temples situated in Kanchipuram, this temple is just ½ kms away from Ashtabuyakaram Temple of Lord Vishnu. Most significantly, this Divya Desam was the hallowed birthplace of the great Sri Vaishnava AchArya, Swami Vedantha Desikar (1268-1369 AD).

Here Lord Perumal appears as ‘Deepa prakasar'( Deepam- light) or ‘Vilakoli perumal’ (Vilakoli – light), as the Moolavar in Nindra Thirukkolam facing west direction. Thaayar here is named MaragathaValli. Thirumangai Alwar wrote 2 pasurams. A big Vahana Mandapam is placed in the temple.

There is separate sannadhi for Vedantha Desikar, where he is found with Gnana Muthirai, was built by his son, Nayina Varadachariyar and separate sannadhi for Lakshimi Hayagreevar is also found. The temple tank is called Saraswati pushkarni and the vimanam is known as Sreekara vimanam.
