Mammiyoor Mahadeva Temple

The history says that Lord Shiva was once in a severe meditation, Lord Guru and Lord Vayu reached the place near the river Rudratheertha, created by Lord Shiva, to consecrate the deity of Lord Krishna. Understanding the reason for their arrival, Lord Shiva gave them the place and took his place on the opposite side, on the banks of the river. Despite his severe meditation, he helped Vayudeva and Gurudeva, hence the place where Lord Shiva opted was called as Mahimayur (Mahima meaning greatness). Later on, Mahimayur was called as Mammiyoor.
