Utsavam is the annual festival of this temple that lasts for almost ten days, in the month of April. Many cultural events can be seen during this festival. Other hindu religious festivals like Ekadasi, Ashtami Rohini, Navarathri and all the other Vaishnava festivals are celebrated in this temple.
Special Rituals
The special offerings to the deity are Paalpayasam (traditional Kerala rice kheer or dessert of rice cooked in milk), Neyvilakku (lighting of the lamps around the temple using ghee) and Thamaramaala (garland of Lotus flowers). Each and every devotee is provided with free meals which is known as ‘Prasada Oottu’ or ‘Annadaanam’ which is one of the most important Vazhipadu of this temple.
Info on the deity – Specific to the temple deity
The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Nava Mukundan, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, blessing his devotees, along with his consort Goddess Lakshmi. Here, an interesting fact is that the deity’s below the knee part is concealed within the ground and only from above the knee is visible.
