The history says that Goddess Lakshmi, along with Lord Gajendra, the King of the Elephants, revered Lord Vishnu here with Lotus flowers. The deity in the temple is called as Nava Mukundan, as it is believed that the idol is the ninth idol to be installed in the shrine by Navayogis, a group of holy sages. The temple is built in the classic Kerala style of Architecture.
